Set the table
Sometimes things don’t go to plan.
How do you do life admin when it is all coming at once?

First, this is what the pre-planning, life admin stuff is for. It is much easier to power through or recover when you have an existing plan to return to

But if you didn’t plan, or the plan isn’t working, think though modifications.

Assess what it is working. Don’t waste time fixing what isn’t broken

Assess what isn’t working and target that.

Can’t spend too much time assessing, because stuff has to get done. You’ll have to make some gut calls.

Be willing to consider how much you can control, and letting go of some of it. [Erma Bombeck story]
How do you recover when things settle down?

This is when you plan, in the slower times.

But plan with this new information about the fast times in mind.

Debrief. What worked and what didn’t? Adjust your old plans or scrap them and come up with new ones.

If new, be sure to fill in your family.

If older kids, include them in some of the planning. In fact, that may have been one of the things that caused your old plan to break down

Its the term for the adults still caring for children at home when their own parents care needs rise. It can be complicated, messy and a little uncomfortable. We are here to help navigate.
